– ADC invites PDP to partake in a joint campaign in Kogi state
– Political parties’ leaders allege plot to impeach Saraki, Dogara
Two opposition parties, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a show of tolerance, held what seemed like a joint political rally ahead of the Saturday, August 10, House of Representatives by-election for Lokoja/ Kogi federal constituency.
The New Telegraph reports that earlier on Tuesday, August 7, the ADC and its candidate, Kassim Mohammed Mabo, arrived at Sarking Noma in Lokoja for their campaign. Later, the Bashir Abubakar who is contesting on the platform of the PDP arrived the same venue but decided to wait for the ADC to conclude their rally before they could commence theirs.
On sighting the PDP team, the ADC campaign train led by its state chairman, Chief Daniel Isa, reportedly went to the PDP campaign train and asked them to come over to the venue to also sell their candidate.
Following the invitation, PDP motorcade, conveying the former governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Musa Ahmadu, reportedly drove in and held their campaign along with the ADC peacefully.
Meanwhile, chairmen and leaders of 45 political parties on Thursday, August 9, raised alarm over alleged plans to impeach the Senate president Bukola Saraki and speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they raised the alarm during a solidarity visit to Saraki in Abuja in connection to blockade of the National Assembly by security operatives.
Speaking on behalf of the party leaders, national chairman of National Unity Party (NUP), Perry Opara, also alleged that they had privileged information of secret moves to freeze Saraki’s bank accounts.
